First time at the groomers?
Share
Taking your dog to a professional groomer for the first time can feel a bit daunting - whether you're worried about how your pup will react, how the groomers will handle them, or even what the final result will look like.
If you’re a pet parent considering a visit to Love My Human on the King’s Road, London, we’re here to put your mind at ease.
A grooming experience tailored to your dog
At Love My Human, we know that no two dogs are alike. We’re also very used to nervous canine clients…and their humans, which is why we’re all about the bespoke approach. If you’re coming to see us for the first time, our groomers always take the time to get to know your dog’s personality, preferences, and needs from the moment you walk in. Whether your pup is a curious explorer or a shy snuggler, we adapt our approach to make sure they feel safe and comfortable every step of the way.
We never rush our appointments and always prioritise gentle handling and positive reinforcement. Nervous pups are given extra time and attention to help them build trust - sometimes even with a treat or two (with your permission, of course!).
If you want to pop by and talk to us before you make an appointment, that’s okay too! It’s very important to us that you BOTH feel happy before you commit to your groom.
Meet our expert groomers
We currently have a team of seven experienced groomers at our HQ – Gemma, Alicia, Sophie, Diana, Chloe, Sze and Tania. You can catch them in action on our socials here.
Our friendly pros aren’t just trained in technique - they’re passionate animal lovers with lots of experience working with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments. From Poodles to Pugs, anxious rescues to energetic puppies, we’ve seen (and styled) it all. Each one is also super happy to talk through your concerns, walk you through the grooming process, and even offer a tailored care plan for your dog’s coat and skin.
To give you even more peace of mind, we’re proud members of the ICMG (International Certified Master Groomers) and fully adhere to their professional code of conduct. On top of that, all our groomers follow in-house policies that promote respectful, compassionate handling and communication - because every dog deserves to feel safe, understood, and loved.
A salon designed with dogs in mind
Located in the heart of Chelsea, our King’s Road salon has been thoughtfully designed to make grooming as relaxing as possible. Think less ‘clinical’ and more ‘canine spa day’. Calming scents, soothing music, and a clean, modern space help reduce anxiety for both pets and their people.
To ensure the most comfortable experience possible, we have an additional groomer or prep technician available when needed - whether a dog needs a bit of extra comfort or their coat requires more extensive work. We believe dogs should never spend too long on the grooming table, and having that extra pair of hands means shorter appointments and a less stressful time for your pup.
We also use only the highest-quality, natural grooming products – including our own exclusive pH balanced range <link to product page> perfect for sensitive skin.
What to expect at your first appointment with us
Step one: A warm welcome – You and your dog are greeted by name, with plenty of time to settle in.
Step two: Your consultation – We’ll discuss your dog’s history, health, temperament, and grooming preferences.
Step three: Introductory handling – If your dog is a bit nervous, we may let them sniff around and get used to the salon before we get started.
Step four: The (gentle) groom – Whether it’s a full cut, a wash and brush-up, or just a nail trim, we’ll go at your dog’s pace.
Step five: Post-groom debrief – You’ll receive personalised feedback, care tips, and of course - plenty of compliments on how fabulous your dog looks.
Still feeling a bit nervous…?
Please don’t be! Your precious pet is in safe hands. But if you still feel a few jitters, it’s always a good idea to let your dog burn off some energy with a short walk before their appointment. Bringing a favourite toy or blanket with you can also be comforting if they’re visiting us for the first time. Even if you don’t feel it, stay calm! Dogs really do pick up on our emotions, so chances are if you’re okay, they’ll be okay!
